Anima Group Chooses Aerohive’s Cloud Management Solution to Simplify Multi-Campus Wi-Fi Network and Handle Client Density
We recently spoke with The Anima Group about their Aerohive deployment. The Anima Group operates in the education segment of Brazil, with four universities in Sao Paulo, Minas, Parana, Santa Catarina, and Goias. They have been in operation for 16 years, have 4,000 employees, and serve 100,000 students.
Challenge: Unify All Campus Networks to be Managed Together Seamlessly
The Anima Group has been expanding for many years. They had been using different solutions at each campus that all had to be managed separately. This design led to challenges for their IT department when problems would arise. As students were bringing more devices on campus, they needed to unify their network so all four campuses could be managed together without the need for onsite hardware at each. Because students and teachers bring a variety of devices to school (iPads, Android, Chromebooks, Mac laptops, and Windows laptops), whatever solution they chose had to work well with all of them, while under a heavy client load at the same time. The budget was a concern for senior leaders, so whatever solution they built had to be:
- Able to expand as The Anima Group grew their business
- Could support high-density environments
Solution: Onboard, Manage, and Monitor Over 1,000+ Access Points From a Single Web Interface
The Anima Group started with a Proof of Concept (PoC) with Aerohive at a strategic site. During the PoC, The Anima Group discovered just how easy Aerohive’s installation, configuration, and ongoing management was compared to their prior solution. They were impressed at the ability of Aerohive to hold up even under the heaviest of client loads while providing invaluable insights into the health status of clients inside of HiveManager. During the PoC, they learned about dual 5 GHz access points, and their ability to provide maximum capacity while also limiting co-channel interference.
After finishing a successful PoC, The Anima Group elected to move ahead with using Aerohive across all of the campuses. They implemented a mixture of products from Aerohive’s access point portfolio (AP121/AP130/AP330/AP230/AP250/AP550). In total, 1100 access points were deployed. The central aspect that drew the Anima Group to Aerohive was unifying all of their locations under one single management system without having to rely on onsite hardware for control. Using the HiveManager Local Cloud platform for their on premises deployment, Anima can onboard, manage, and monitor all 1100 access points from a single web interface. With competing solutions, they would have been forced to deploy onsite controllers at each campus. The entire rollout took just 60 days, which included shipping the order, mounting the access points, configuring them, and building network policies.
After installing the initial Aerohive deployment, The Anima Group is continuing to add access points as they are turning up new locations due to acquisitions. With the network up and running, they are able to support students, teachers, and staff. They are now 100 percent Wi-Fi based across the entire campus. In the future, they are considering moving their network management to Hive Manager Public Cloud to enjoy the cost savings and simplicity of not having it located on their network.
Why Aerohive: Now, Anima Group Can Take on Other Projects
- Saved installation-time with a single network management system for multiple locations
- Offered a wide range of access points to support various use cases
- Saved significant costs with the ability to support high-density environments while remaining within IT budget.
